After lot's and lot's of searching I finally got a great restoration of my dashboard pad although their factory is located in Australia.
The problem was finding someone who has the original metal frame which unlike other MBZ etc, is not part of the dashpad itself but part of the vehicle sub-frame. It seems without the frame the dashpad is not able to be resized to original as the pad shrinks with age and weather.
.
This outfit had both LHD and RHD frames and did a great job despite the fact my original dash was in real poor shape. I also had to provide the metal fixing clip's which attach the pad to the sub-frame so it could be lined up.
I went to Keyes European (in L.A.) and they quoted me $2,000 for a new dashboard top (black vinyl) for my 1984 300SD. They managed to say that with a straight face but I couldn't avoid breaking out in laughter at the price...
was thinking about redoing the leather portion in a wood veneer. i am not sure what everyones take is on that idea, but.......i like wood. like i said, just a thought.
