the best way to trace vacuum problems??

Hi folks,
I just started to replace all (!) vacuum rubber couplings.. am about 1/2 through and my vacuum still sucks... I measured ~280mBar .. and I am suppose to have ~450mBar....
what is the bast way to trace vacuum problems?
Could I simply preasureize the system with a low pressure air pump and use dish wash detergent and water in a spray bottle?
or should I have the engine running and subsequently disable vacuum pathways?

Any "typical" places vacuum problems form?

Thanks Mike

soapy liquid with engine running is a good way but because of the age of the baby new pipes would be the way to go, central locking pump under the rear seat is a noted place for leaks at least start there
