Finally my timing light came in today and I checked the ignition timing right away. For the 1978 450SL/C an adjustable timing light is not necessary, since the disc shows retard/advance up to 30 degrees in 10 degree marks...
Well anyhow, the timing was dead on.. US spec 7 degrees BTDC... the total advance at 2000 RPM is about 26-27 degrees....
The car still has starting problems.. the next thing I will do is test the fuel pressure. The vacuum advance works just fine, therefor I would not assume a major vacuum leak.. (still waiting on my vacuum diagram to make sure though)....
