1979 450 SL when I first start my 450SL it will run @ 1800 rpms, after about 5 minutes it will drop to about 1000 rpm. It also idles very rough. Need help!
my OS is running again
THAT IS BESIDES THE POINT
My MB user manual that I bought is a worthless pice of carp!
I just double checked the emissions issue. I have read that US models starting in 74 had catalytic converters... and my user manual verified that..
well I checked the required items and their locations. Basically my car should have the K-Jetronic plus a rather simple computer, lamba sensor and some other goddies... none of the items I could find.. I ripped half my interiour appart to find i.e. the CIS-E unit, altitude compensation device or the connectors for the O2 sensor.. nada.. zip .. zilch.. nothing. Looks all original....
Heck I am fine with that.. did not want a cat anyways and like the hiogher HP on the car.. but why the heck are there original Mercedes Benz stickers on my vehicle saying that I do have a catalytic converter on board???????????????
feeling better now....
Later... going to burn this uselss CD in my back yard now [:(!]
hi .. man I would be delighted if this would be an import indeed... however I am rather afraid that the documentation I have is off and it shows a later emmissions system.....
I was quite amazed when I read the elaborate effort on this emmissions system. Looking back in the mid late 70's I would have guessed that is should have been a non regulated cat...
So I think it is something like this:
the car is a regular (low power :-(( ) US version. The cat sticker is real. The documentation I do have is not for my model year, instead for an older model. Even though the CD says 1978 on it, and some wire diagrams show that year, the CIS-E documentation just features page numbers.. and they are all scanned PDF files...
The only thing now is, what do I trust on this CD and waht not?
Or better yet, is there a 450 owner 77' - 79' that could confirm they run on an non regulated cataltic converter....
if it dosnt have the o2 sensor then it never had the cat ( no need for it ) the cat would soon coke up if the system wasnt in place like all the things that go with cats (cannister purge valve, egr system ) as long as it passes the emmisions there is no problem, a little tip on htat is allways do a full service "oil & filter, air filter, plugs" before you take it in and use full synthetic oil it lowers the emmissions
Hi teky
interresting indeed...
hmmm and I for sure thought I remembered "non regulated" cats in the early 80's back when I was in Europe....
I wish I could see a parts number on this muffler (it features 2 mufflers) and know for sure... but I will take your word for it.....
Besides, I do have a passive air injection (not the California version with an air pump) and an EGR system
.....
lol... strange place this is we live in....
