auto transmission fluid confusion
I have a US version 450SLC 1978. Nice car [:D]
Currently I have almost all operational fluids replaced, with the exception of the tranny fluid.
Was not able to source Dexron IID. After a while on the internet it seems that ATF+2 is a direct compatible fluid.. that of course does not longer exist :-( thus the new type ATF+3 is supposently better than the +2 type.
Strangely enough the local MB dealer uses Dexron III in all their Benzes, that quite frankly is very confusing. Are there not afterall reasons why a MFG specifies different fluids.... there are at least 6 differnt type of tranny fluids currently out there (Dexron III, IV, V, ATF+3, ATF, ATF F) and they do not seem to be compatible (at least that is what the sticker says)...
well now I got so frustrated that I bought myslef 8 liters of Castrol ATF+3 and am going to replace my fluid these days. Unfortunately even MB USA did not respond to my inquiry if Dexron III is save to use on this car :-(
any inputs on your side?
Frustrated greetings, Mike
