1970 280 SEL

hello again -

looking for some info on this car model.
i am currently looking at a couple of these - one is in very good condition (tmu) and the other is a parts car being sold with it. my question regards the parts car. it is also a 280 sel, but has a floor mounted gear selector. is this an unusual feature or just the way they were sold. i do not know the year of the parts car so have no real frame of reference where features are concerned.
also, the seller is asking $3500.00 for both. is this a fair price? i think its too much but welcome your input.

floor mount shift is common on the euro cars as for the price its what you would normally pay for a classic car in good condition and original which is the main thing, in the uk pre 1972 cars are sought after because you dont pay road tax and get classic insurence which is very cheap, get as much data from the working car as possible chassis number-engine number and gearbox number, the other car is just spares unless its viable to rebuild it

RE: 1970 280 SEL

thanks for the info -
the parts car has what looks to be us spec headlamps, so i am not sure its a euro model. the condition of the parts car is pretty ratty on the outside. the inside has items that are salvageable such as the seats and some of the wood trim parts. i'm sure there is more, but only took a cursory look at the vehicle
