Hi there,
I have read that there are supposently certain plastic parts in the 4.5ltr V8 engines (i.e. 450 SLC) that are prone to fail due to age.... something in the chain drive train.. is that correct...
What are those??
I believe that you're referring to the chain guides. The originals were aluminum/rubber, but the replacements are plastic. They can become brittle and shatter with age if they've been subjected to enough contact with the chain. The results can be disastrous.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the plastic rails were ever used as original equipment. They were simply released by Mercedes as a modification.
