W123 Mags on a W114

Hi Gang,

I recently purchased a 1975 280C and I found some W123 Aluminum wheels for a bargain ($120 for a set of four). They need to be repainted and I was wondering if anyone had some tips. Also, do they bolt right on, or do I need to make some adjustments?

Thanks in advance for all the help!

Cheers!

Alfred

I believe they'll bolt right up without a hitch.

Lug bolt length might be different, check with a parts guy to make sure. Should fit otherwise.

If they have tyres on give them a good rub down to remove old paint and corrosion, smear the tire with a liberal amount of washing up liquid and spray paint. Saves messing about with masking tape etc. When dry overspray will wash off the tyre wall.

Thanks for the response guys, they are not on tires so the painting process should be easier. I just need to spend some time prepping them. There is quite a bit of brake dust that needs to be scrubbed off.

I'll check with a parts guy on the lug length.

I look forward to having the mags on the car hopefully by summer and thanks again for the tips.

Cheers!

The lug length from W114 to W123 is the same, but the length is different when going from steel rims to mags.

Hi Ron,

I'm not too technically savvy so forgive me. I have steel rims now so does that mean I need to get new lugs bolts?

Thanks!

Yes that's what it means. You'll need the standard mag wheel lugs, which are a bit longer than yours.

Thanks for clarifying Ron.
All I have to do now is clean up the wheels for painting. Started today and 20 years of brake dust is a PIA to clean.

Thanks Again!

Spray on some strong oven cleaner or use an SOS pad. Then give them a light sanding.
