1959 220SE Cabriolet

I am looking for ENGLISH owners manuals or other technical information for a 1959 220SE Cabriolet that we are restoring. The only ones I've been able to find are in German. Any guidance is appreciated.

Try www.AutoLit.com. Click the "shop now" tab, click Mercedes Benz and enter the year desired. You will find original catalogs, owner's manuals, etc.

Boy now there is a project I would like to do! That model (cabrio) is a beautiful car, but you gain a whole new appreciation for it when it is torn apart. One of the finest pieces of mechanical art in my opinion. Where are you located?

1987 MBZ 300D 210,000 mi (sold)
1993 MBZ 300D 120,000 mi (sold)
1987 Porsche 928 100,000 mi.
2001 CLK430 Cabrio, 50K mi,
1998 Dodge Ram, 250,000 mi.

RE: 1959 220SE Cabriolet

We are located in the suburbs of Chicago. My brother actually is the one that owns the car. It is special to our family as it was owned by our father who died about 7 years ago. The car was in a garage from about 1970 until 1998 when we first towed it out. As was my father's practice until he died, still in the glove box was "the book" where he recorded all the gas and maintenance that was done on the car including my parents' honeymoon trip driving down the California coast. Very special car indeed.

Given the importance of the 220SE project, all the work is being professionally done. We found a shop locally who recently took delivery of the car and is getting started. We're excited to see its progress.

I have my father's other Mercedes, a 1977 450SL which he bought new, and have similar records dating back to the original purchase. I hope to start a minor restoration to repair the typical rusted corners next winter.

Thanks again to everyone who helped us get the information. I'm sure we'll draw on your expertise in the future.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check that out. We're always looking for good pictures of how the car is supposed to look.

You'd probably find http://www.mbzponton.org/ a bit more helpful...
