hi, is there any way of finding out if the ECU, ignition, radio etc. has been changed in my 2010 (10 plate) Vito? Only asking as I got a replacement key from the local Commercial MB service center and it won't work. The van got the existing keys assigned to the van de-tracked by MB except for the one key that I have and use. The new blade also is the wrong cut and wont manually open the door locks and as the 2 parts of the key come from different places I'm a bit worried I can't get an extra spare key made.

I would think that the MB computer that has been used would be able to tell if the ECU matches the van it is in but not to sure.

I have taken the sound 5 radio out to have a look at its serial number and manufacturing date 04/10 which was the same year as what the van is registered and thought the the radio would be slightly older

Up to now I have spent £240 on trying to get the extra key and hoping not to spend any more.

Hope all this makes sense and thanks in advance for any help.:smile

Hi,

+ 1 for Mark.

This happens a lot with MB, which is why they require paying first for the keys, and don't gaurantee they will work.

Usually, (but not always), if you plug the vehicle into Star / Xentry System the VIN is displayed in the top right corner of SDS Screen, if ECU etc has been changed, it will display the Vin from the donor vehicle.

I say usually, because although it is not easy to enter another VIN into the EEProm it is possible that EEPromming specialists can do it, and it may be possible to do using SDS if you have the correct Keygen software for VIN Erase / Write (ABR) ............ I do :grin

I haven't personally tried this yet, as I haven't had a running scrapper to try it on, and I'm not going to run the risk of non start on a good vehicle :laugh

HTH,

Cheers Dave

Hi,

Give Mark a ring, they travel up and down the country, may be in your area some time soon, may be able to tell you what problem is over the phone.........

Those guys know more about DAS 3 than MB Dealers :laugh

HTH,

Cheers Dave
