112 CDI Clocks Issues

Hi Guys

I know this is a repeated thread, and I've read most of whats around but here goes with my woes.

Not the original clocks mileage read 265,000. Last MOT before I bought it, the van was on 95,000 and 170,000 in 2 months is a bit of a push for any van!!!

1) Clocks turn themselves off every 5 seconds, only for a fraction of a second then return back to where they were. Everything works apart from speedo (see part 2) Occasionally they will just stop dead apart from the revs which will lock at about 1,000. Have to unplug at the back to reset back to "ticking" clocks. No beeping when lights on and doors are opened but rev counter will tick itself all the way round till it hits the stop.

2) Speedo has never worked from when I bought the van, previous owner said he changed the clocks to try and rectify this but to no avail. Was in the process of checking the sensor on the gearbox and tracing wires back only to find the yellow connector end of sensor cables under the dash not plugged in!! Hence why its not working. There is also another cable with a white connector not plugged in. Any ideas where these should plug in? The yellow/speedo cable is about 40-50cm to short to reach the clocks and obvious socket to connect to.

Any help on either of these issues would be much appreciated.

Hi ive had a fair bit of issues with the speedos so il give you what info i can.

Firstly even tho the speedo assembly may look to be the correct one, if it is not from the same model ie Vito 112 it will all work apart from the speedo, i know cos ive done it.
i got an identical looking speedo assembly from a 108 for my v220, all worked apart from speedo.
so i got a new repair kit from pixelfix, bit fidly to do but worked great,
You need a speedo from a 112, to start with, it must be from a 112 nothing else.
as for wires, my speedo assy has 2 block connectors thats all the clips in to the rear of dash.
hope this may help.

Hi Len
Thanks for that, I don't suppose you know part number for the 112 clocks, or have any idea where this yellow connector should plug in?

Thanks again Andy

I have edited this post, as it seems I may have been wrongly informed by other posts on this site.

Clock Sets with different part numbers may be able to be re flashed so they work with MB Star.

HTH

Cheers Dave

Evidence please for education. I know the gearbox has many sensors but it still only throws it into the canbus. Why would they change the speedo 'feed' just because its auto ?

Hi Danny, yes its a 112 manual. Both plugs are connected on the back of the clocks, and everything appears to work (when they are not switching themselves off every 5 seconds) apart from the speedo. The yellow connector runs from a sensor on the gearbox to the drivers side foot well, the cable is also well protected by aluminium sleeve (like a shower hose).

Hi Danny

It would appear that I may have been mis-informed or possibly I have mis-understood other posts on this forum.

Sorry

I read on here from Mark @ Vito spares that it is possible to have the clocks re flashed by MB Star machine so they can be interchanged, I don't now if this is true or not, but..................

This morning I installed the clock set I kept from the Manual Vito I broke up, (2003), into my V 220 CDI, (late 2002), and I can confirm everything including the speedo worked fine.
Both these clock sets had the same part number, but obviously different build dates.

HTH

Cheers Dave
