ebay spares.

i brought a drivers side front hub off ebay last week for my van, it clearly said it was the front drivers side front for a vito 97-03.

and when i opened the box i thought to my self great they have sent me the wrong side, as its clearly the passenger side, then i turned it over and was trying to work out were the drive shaft goes when i realised that it was blanked off on the inside almost like it was for a rear wheel drive van......

still cant complain for 20pound including p+p or can i?

anyone else been sent something completely wrong.

Subject: Item I received is not as described: dud00100 sent a message about MERCEDES VITO DRIVERS SIDE FRONT HUB O/S 1996 - 2003 #121013847859
Sent Date: 17-Nov-12 09:29:10 GMT

Dear 2007redcorn,

the front hub you sent me is for a mercedes w639, my mercedes w638 is front wheel drive.
the hub you sent is for the mercedes vito 03-12 and is a rear wheel drive van.

would be happy if we could clear this up.

thanks George

Dear dud00100,

THIS WAS REMOVED FROM A 2001 VEHICLE AST STATED IN THE LISTING SO IT IS A W638 AND YOU CAN TELL BY THE HOLE IN THE MIDDLE THAT IT IS A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE.

Dear 2007redcorn,

Hello I have posted some pictures of key points of the hub, if you follow the link you can see them.
it seems that your caps lock key is broken

Thank you for your prompt and polite reply.

as you say.......... its DEFINITELY a 639 hub and looks nothing like the 638 front or rear.

I'd love to know what it was doing on a 638 or a 2001 whatever.

I'd also love to know what would go through the central hole...........

answers on a postcard please...... (as they used to say) whoever "they" were.

if I took it off, I have a feeling my vito would fall over..... sorry.

always had good dealings with dronsfield... they really DO know what they're about.

have a look at wheeler dealers when they do a merc.... its dronsfields they use.

well what it is.... my wheel bolts are a bit messed up on the front, only 4 really tighten and the thread on them is really damaged! so i need to re tap them or get a new hub.

any suggestions would be good.

M14 x 1.5mm tap and tap wrench

I only paid a tenner for both bits from local supplier.... the threads muck-up very easily.

make sure its a HSS high speed steel tap as carbon steel ones break too easily.... and put some grease on it when using.

I also bought a long stud from the VW dealer (same thread different shoulder on bolts/nuts) and turn it into the top wheel-bolt hole when fitting a wheel (only a few turns needed)... it supports the wheel to locate it... most wheel-bolt damage is done whilst trying to balance a heavy wheel and locating the bolt.... only cost just over a quid but really worth it.
