Exclamation heater problems

its cold, its icy................. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I've been asked by several people about their heater not working (WHY Meeeee?)

No Blower, or Squealing Blower (you can hear its not running or making noises)
try the brushes in the motor.

Blower working but no hot air - little or no airflow, hot or cold
check Pollen filter not clogged, replace or remove filter if necessary

Blower working but no hot air - good airflow cold but not hot.
Check / replace heater bypass valve

Make sure your coolant is under 2years old or replace with 50/50 solution

Make sure your washer fluid is proper screenwash and strong enough to withstand freezing (you can easily drain by snapping out a washer pump)

Nicely volunteered Malcolm!

unfortunately, my issue not explained above!

Heater controls are just not working, I suspect (know!) that the control cables are shot. Doesn't matter where I put the vent direction control, air always comes out of the center dash vents

I've had the dash panel out and can see the two wheels at the top of the control unit that counter rotate and one of the cables has bent (probably due to stiffness at the other end) This is the same with the one that controls the hot water valve that sits above the brake pedal on the bulkhead.

I don't know why this has happened...

I also can't find any reference to these cables in the WIS anywhere either?

Any advice greatly appreciated as always!

Hi Malcolm,

A few months ago, my heater core died (water all over my feet) and I'm looking to replace the heater core.

I have been told that I need to remove the entire dash in order to take it out and replace.

Any chance you have a diagram on where all the screws/bolts, etc are for removal ?

Also, I found a copy of WIS and have tried to use it but can't seem to. The version I found came with 4 dvd's. Maybe PM me about it ?

Thanks,
Sam

Gandhi..... I've had the problem in other vehicles, the cable jam is normally caused either by a bit of grit on the cable, often caused by someone putting oil on a cable that shouldn't be oiled which becomes sticky and grit sticks to it, OR by the flap sticking.......... someone then uses force on the control and the cable kinks... once the process starts it just gets worse until it jams...... I will see if I can find any details later (after my medication kicks in)

mr v8,,,,, I will get you the available information later (as above..... when my drugs kick in)

for your WIS problem see WIS Problem in forum listing.

Heater PDFs as promised

all options covered from adjusting vents to dismanting entire front end (I think)

Please Note:

thanks to MB being German and all documents are therefore translations, MOST drawings show Left Hand Drive..... apart from steering wheel position, there are no differences to a Right Hand Drive model.

ALSO: terminology in WIS/EPC may not translate how you expect e.g. look up "heater" and a brit expects the thing that blows hot air at the driver..... in fact its an auxiliary diesel powered unit.
The "heater" is either "climate control" "ventilation" or "blower"

GOOD LUCK especially if you want to take the heater core out.

My pollen filter was clogged up and the fan was really noisy, removed the filter and noise was gone.
