Wastegate stuck open (now with pics)

I've been told by my local garage that the reason for my lack of performance on my 110cdi is becuase the wastegate on the turbo is stuck open. They were unable to identify why it was not working but commented on the egr valve being blocked off and this may have something to do with it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might explain the wastegate not being controlled properly?

Thanks in advance. Cheers Kenny

What a load of rubbish.
Don't worry about the blocked EGR either.

Can you give some van specs inc mileage etc and some symptoms your having.

And the turbo is controlled by an external wastegate that uses vacuum to open

The wastgate valve is actioned by an vacuum transducer
Maybe this one doesn't work properly. In this case , at diagnose test , P1470 is returned. The EGR can be clean.Check also the vacuum hoses.

Thanks for the input guys.

Its a 110cdi 1999 with 150k on the clock. On the way back from a motocross meeting there was a drop in performance, the turbo stopped working and then the van went into limp mode. This was around the time it was due for MOT so asked the garage to look at this too.

They zip-tied the waste gate shut proving this was the fault but couldn't explain why the waste gate was not being controlled properly. They also said the didnt have workshop manuals so without another van side by side it would be difficult to diagnose the problem.

I have ordered up a workshop manual but not sure how detailed the images will be to check that all the vacum pipes are in the correct place and not damaged.

Cheers Kenny

I have a couple of photo which may/or may not have anyting to do with this problem. It's a case of what is the part and where does it go!

What is the black part with the L-shaped tube coming from it in picture 2 and should this be attached to anything or going to atmosphere?

Thanks in advance. If you think any other pics i'll get them. cheers

That hoses must be connected.I am not sure if there is missing something or not. Please post an chassis number to see wow they should be connected.I say that because there are 3 or 4 types of the vacuum assembley for the EGR.That piece with an short hose which is curved like L letter , is an vacuum transducer used to command the EGR.

I'm sure that pipe coming off the solenoid should end up at the brake servo.
I had a Y splitter by the bulkhead on one of my vans and couldn't find where the other pipe went to so blocked it off with a screw, it ran perfectly after that.

So, I would try and find what pipes connect to where but you should have a pipe continuous from solenoid to servo.
