Injector seat cleaning tool

I made this from a wire shoe brush so its a soft brush and therefore won't scratch , it will just clean injector seat. there is a copper outer sleeve which you use to position the wire brush into the correct place, then you pull up the copper outer tube and twist the wire brush to clean with WD 40.

The bristles have been properly secured and drilled and glued into the wooden dowel.

If enough people want to buy one then I may sell them.

I made it to clean my Vito injector seat after several failed attempts at sealing an injector onto a dirty seat.

Great job mate! I modified a tap reseater to clean mine and got 'em clean, then reannealed copper washers to ensure they sealed. Didn't work,so took to MB shop, who advised that their mechanic polished seats to glass finish using emery-tipped dowels. They've been good for 18 months now and I reckon the smoother you can get the seat, the longer seals will hold ie no ridges or weak points.

Thanks for that thought . I might need it yet. I have been driving the van around for the last day smelling the air vent whilst at traffic lights waiting for the smell of diesel fumes to re-appear , as yesterday was hopefully the last time that I have to re-seat the injector. in the last 3 days or so I have had injector no.1 in and out 3 or 4 times , lost count now but its raining here everyday and am doing it outside in the street.

Every time the smell came back after getting to full temp and an hours drive.

Lets hope this works . First time with this tool . But I did see not too smooth area around the outer edges of the seat. But hope this will seal now as the centre part seems clean. I am expecting the worst now.
lets hope it seals now I was nearly on the phone to the garage , but they where engaged ! so I did it again myself

OK emery on a dowel . Nice tip , thanks for that. Might need it yet.

Mine has just started chuffing again after having them all reseated and the bolt holes helicoiled at a cost of ÂŁ650 quid. I have had the van a just over a year and this is the third time it's happened, I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy the proper tool for the job, it's expensive - but at least if I do it, I'll know it's done properly.

Judging by how often it affects the Vito, I may start doing injectors as a side line. I have changed the engine also as mate had a garage and I did the work and he just oversaw me doing it.

Why am i spending all the money? For some insane reason I like the van and the more I fix on it the more I find they're not that difficult to fix, thanks to this forum and just giving it a go.

I'm gonna invest in the Star diagnostics development kit as I'm a sucker for gadgets. I have a company vehicle so it's more of a hobby now.

I think I can see a sort of mist over where the injectors are, over the top of the plastic cover. It just goes on and on.

I am thinking now... Buy a seat cutting tool ,do it with a dowel and wet and dry emery paper, or get an expert to re-cut the seat.

Experts cost ÂŁ65 an hour labour . How much is the tool ? ÂŁ168 plus postage

I am starting to look for other options such as sell it get another make of van.

Mercedes - one of the oldest car manufacturers , come up with this as an answer to sealing an injector. What a joke. We are the ones paying for it. Its not right. How many years of engineering does it take to get a car right "? mmmmmm I have had enough of this. I dont have the time for it .. Who does.

If I'd have known how much my Vito was gonna set me back, I would never have bought it. However I see it as a challenge now and am up to speed on most of the general problems, The injectors are a bloody crap design, but if done with the right tool and carefully I'm hoping to nail the problem - I'm gonna try and get a slightly thicker washer, torque it down and drive a few hundred miles, then whip the cover off and torque them again.

The van is like an unfaithful missus, never rely on it to do what it's told

I know what you mean about the challenge. I want to put mine right now . But I dont want to keep having to check whether its still leaking all the time. I need a seat re-cutting on one injector at present. There is a tool available from Hutson Precision Components for ÂŁ168 plus postage. There is a cheap looking one available on Ebay. I know which one I would buy . Its just whether I can justify spending 168 quid on a tool. Although the other injectors will probably need attention if I keep the van , which I had hoped to do. Taking it to a specialist will probably cost in region of ÂŁ100 for just the one re-cut one ONE injector .

Which tool are you going to buy ?

If you are considering buying a Vito then make sure that there is a history known about the injectors . If not then walk away with your hard earned cash still in your pocket.

Seat cutting tool

Hi guys. Don't know if this is any help to you but I bought and used a Laser seat cutting set from my local MDC for ÂŁ65, part number 4597. It was a simple to use and very effective. Result, 4 non chuffing injectors! They're available online too for between ÂŁ55-ÂŁ65.
