Just bought our first V Class, please help!

Hi, we just picked up our V280 Ambiente yesterday 1998 by the way, and got it home last night and checked the lights as you do when it gets dark!!

Sadly there was no manual with the car so here goes...

When you turn the lights on every thing appears fine until you click high beam! The blue light comes on on the dash but the high beam doesn't do anything (ie no bright lights) Then checked the fogs and it appears that when you turn the fog lamps on and then click the high beam it dims the head light.

So confused!!

Have tested the bulbs and the earths to the head lamps and all are correct.

The twin filament bulb has no power to one filament, but the filaments are in tact.

OK, Help me please I'm blonde!!

Thanks chaps

Lucy

does the flasher work with the lights off?

it sounds like it may be an earth problem but failing that it is most likeley the switch

it strange that you have no power at only one fillement - therefore at least one side headlamp should work

The flasher does not work with the lights off
Have checked the earths and all fine
Both side lights work, both dip beam work, both fog logs work only thing not working is high beam, apart from the fact that it lights up the dash.

I phone MB who suggested i needed a new multi function stalk but was hoping to avoid the £70 +VAT + Labour costs if at all possible.

Hi
Be aware the bulbs are not as you would expect. The single filament bulb is the dipped beam. The twin filament bulb is fog and main beam. This unusual (mad?) arrangement has confused more than one owner and garage.

Thank you, that is part of why we are confused. I was told the twin filament bulb was the fog and main beam.

main beam

I had exactly the same symtons on my V220 it turned out to be a poor connection to the bulb. Walker and Bamforth Huddersfield, where I get it serviced charged nothing. Bit cheaper than £70.00

!

Tinker with the bulbs - grav220 rightly states the dilemma faced by many!
