central locking problem v220 cdi

I've just inherited a V220 CDi trend which previously belonged to my dad and was kitted out with various disability aids including an automatic side door opener (which never worked properly but merely caused trouble). He just recently had the solenoid removed from inside the door, since which time the central locking no longer functions fully: the doors lock, unlock, and lock again, and the indicators don't flash; every other door except the side door in question locks. I suspect the system doesn't recognise that the door is closed (which it is), which is presumably some kind of sensor problem. Can anyone advise? Thanks!
