Central locking cure + other questions

I had the (very common it seems) locking and unlocking of all doors at various intervals while driving. Cleaning sliding door contacts only seemed to help for a couple of days. I eventually swopped left and right contacts (the ones in the pillar), now the pins would rub on a new surface curing the problem. Suppose when eventually it starts acting up again will have to replace.

The outside temperature display on my dash only shows me three dashes, I assume the pick up sensor or connector must be at fault but I don't know where it is situated - any ideas?

Also does anyone know of an OBD reader (handheld, software, multiplexer?) that is available in South Africa and is proved to work on the 115cdi?

Any advice would be great.
