Hi All,
I know there has been much discussion on instrument clusters but i think i may be asking something new this time.
I
have managed to remove the clocks to replace a bulb, and also to move my speedo needle which was reading around 5-10 mph slower than i was actually driving according to tomtom (these excuses don't wash with the authorities). That was simple enough, though after putting it all back together and checking lights and speedo (all good) i noticed that i have lost my odometer completely.
I checked some threads on here and discovered that i have inadvertently pulled the ribbon from the odometer to the PCB inside the cluster, the thread i found this on suggested trying a repair as if the cluster is goosed anyway i have nothing to lose from trying (you can't break em twice).
I've had a go, but not had any luck at all, so what i'd like to know is, can you replace the cluster with a part from a breakers?? obviously i'd get the same clocks, i.e. rev counter, speedo, temp, fuel etc. all in the correct places, but would they actually work in the car? you know what electrickery in modern cars can be like, this is a T plate 1998 ambiente (i'm used to capris, Mk11 escorts and Mk1 fiestas) or would they have to be guided into place by an MB electronics wizard???
Breakers=£20-30 +pp

MB=£££££££££££££££££££
Cheers for any info folks
