My wheels & tyres have the same rolling radius as the original, they're just twice as wide! LOL My speedo reads 5mph fast according to my sat nav. I'll chase my mate up & find out what difference his wheels made.
As a possible point of interest, when i put 17" supermoto wheels on my old enduro bike from the standard 21" front my 6 mile journey to work became a 11 mile trip, got 135 miles from a tankful of fuel instead of the usual 90 though! LOL

Well i learnt the hard way on a golf i had. Put 245 40 19's (wanting to fill arches) and ended up getting a ticket for doing 47 in a 40 zone when i thought i was just a touch over 40.

Best thing to do is use the 'Tyre Size Calculator' third of the way down this Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 2 of 2 and you'll get the exact difference.

Been a sad weekend. Was watching these AMG rims on ebay but failed to get infront of a pc to bid on them so missed out

Thinking about some replacements, what you guys think of these Ascari's ? They are's 20's as apposed to the AMG's being 18's. I dunno, I guess that'll be the retail therapy kicking in...spend more to make up for the loss

Anyone with similar size rims/tyres on their vito care to share their thoughts on ride and handling? would really appreciate it

for those interested the fitments on the AMG were 8.5j with et44 front and 9.5j with et46 rear (would require some flared arches)
fitment on Ascari's is 8j et38 front and 9j et38 rear (more expensive tyres but then usage is low so they would last a long time)

i've already got original MB 7 spoke 16's on my van.

i'm starting to think that they are the best option. i don't dislike them - but i would like 17's - or the old-school DTM AMG star dish 5 spokes as already mentioned.

i can't find any UK stockists of the alutec DTM copies.

i'm deffo going to lower the van by 40mm and see how it looks, then consider getting the wheels refurbed.

pics of the wheels to follow.

lol you realise it's a v-class we're discussing here not a range or a Q7 22's way too big me thinks.

I've come across that sight before but didn't find anything i liked.

Hey you've got 19's right. Have you had 20's on there or know anyone who has? I feel like just getting these 20's and finding out what the ride and handling is like afterwards.

I have RH Alurad NAJ 200.

18" diameter by 8" wide all round, with a 45mm offset.

and the tyres were Yokohama AVS db V550 - Size 245/45R18 W 100/RF
The db standing for "decibel" as in quiet run tyres. I found that the van tramlined a lot on uneven surfaces and put this down to the width of the tyres on the front. I found that running them at 40psi helped this, but didn't cure it. They weren't that quiet.

On replacement at 20,000 miles, I went for some Continental Sportcontact 2 245/45R18 100w xl
and the difference is amazing! They are easily quieter by 50% than the yokohamas and the handling is impeccable. They no longer tramline and even put up with motorway ruts a lot better! So in my experience, 8" alloys are OK on the front but can be very sensitive to tyres.

245/45R18 is within 1% of the original tyre diameter.

Note: This does not constitute advice. Wheels and tyres are safety critical items. You are responsible to check information yourself.

BFG thnx for that. Exactly the kind of post I was hoping for. All the relevant info covered nicely.

I was keen to find out if there was a solution to the tramline problem with wider front tyres. Glad that a change of tyres can be a solution so will look into it when choosing those.
