Cv joint replacement & sump plug

In my preholoday preparation I thought an oil change would be a good idea. i discovered the sump plug has been rounded off by the previous owner...
I plan to weld a large nut to it in the hope that it will come out. Any other birght ideas? does anyone know what size thread / pitch it is so Ican find a replacement?

IM also going to replace my NS inner CV joint - I presume its the usal game of undo allen bolts from gearbox end, undo the hub nut - slide whole assembly out - replace CV and put back together? or is it one where I have to undo the bottom of the strut?

Just trying to guage whether I can get it all done in an evening really.

If you have a large self-locking wrench, perhaps try using this first - it almost always works for me.

You could file a couple of flats on it then give it a go with a monkey wrench. There are also stud extraction tools available (I think machine mart do them) . You drill a hole, insert the tool then tighten it (by screwing it in the wrong way) and eventually unwinds the bolt.

It should have a 17mm hex internal indent sump plug. It's not normally a bolt head. Have another look.
Whoops no thats the gearbox I'm thinking of.

sorted it now......

CV joint was easy job no probs there......but i think whoever did the oil system on my van was a bit heavy handed!!!! after a good bit of messing about with the above options - i welded a 22mm nut onto the sump plug....that made it easier! flushed with suceess I thought I would simply undo the oil filter......jeesss thats on there tight....in fact its still on there.....does anyone know if its 35 or 36 mm plastic nut in the middle? think i need to buy a socket as the large adjustable is just rounding it off.

Cheers in advance

If you're going to mig or tig weld the nut (or anything)

remember to disconnect BOTH battery posts first!!!!!

its the quickest way I know to destroy the battery (experience from a number of bad garages)
