97 V230 rear door inner door card/panel removal

Just a quickie...typical problem...the mercedes logo on the rear door was vandalised. (Bought the car like that) Got a cheapy on ebay...but how do I quickly access the backside of the door to remove the old one and install the new one.

On the inner door card on the back door I see what appears to be a panel/cover on the bottom half of the door. I would think if I removed this I could get to the backside and be able to remove the old logo.

But before I start prying around back there and mark up the panel...anyone know how to quickly remove that panel? Where is the best place to pry? Two sides? Corners?

Any advice appreciated.

As a side note...this really is Bull***t that one cant buy a shop manual direct from Mercedes. Who the hell brings in a 10 year old car to service for something like this? I've had shop manuals over the years for all my cars and bikes and they have proven worth their weight in gold. Anyway...just wanted to rant a bit.

The vito door cards are held in by ribbed plugs and the card just pops off. Dunno about the v230 though.

Plenty of people here have the MB WIS which is doing the rounds.

The Merc circle logo is simply levered off gently from the outside - it has 3 pins into 3 nylon sockets - be gentle, a round tipped dinner knife is ideal.

the vito logo is easily removed by gently warming it - a hairdryer on full in a garage works, a craft hot air gun is probably the best (used by card makers)
a paint stripping hot air gun will work but you have to be very careful not to blister the paint - take your time.
then prise off gently with the type of knife mentioned above - no sharp edges.
clean off glue residue with alcohol (isopropanol) or mercle glue remover.

Cool...so the 3 pointed logo doesnt need to be secured from the backside? It just pops in and out? Cool...I thought it would have some kind of self tapping "nuts" on the backside. (Forgive me...I've owned a ton of yank cars in my life and typically thats how these plastic/pot metal logos are secured to the bodywork)

While on the topic of the Vito/V230 logo...anyone know where one can find a cheapo to slap on? My V230 is missing the V230 logo on the backdoor...but I can still see where it was "glued on".

Last thing...this is a real noob question...what is an MB WIS? Can I borrow it from anyone here on the board?

Anyway...thanks for the replies. This board is a big help. Should have the new battery/plugs/airfilter/oil filter in a couple days. Then I'll try and tackle the interior pollen filter...I've seen the thread...sounds like fun to change.

Last but not least, the fuel filter...is it tough to get to on the Vito? Is it a 6mm or 8mm inlet/outlet diam?

Thanks again...MZ

Nevermind about the WIS...I searched and found out what it is. Actually heard about this thing but it seems like its a real b*tch to install. What happened to good ol' pdf shop manuals.

Does anyone have it as just pdf's?

Hi Ziras
All of the WIS on ebay are ilegal copies and you would not want that would you. Back in the real world you may find the copy you get has 'wis lite' which runs of a small part of the data base on the DVD/CD, this is much easier to install.... I would think.... and it may not want to go off and look for its server every two minutes.......

Yep...gotcha 9. Just wish Benz made a hardcopy...then I'd just buy someone's ol copy. I hate poking around a car without a manual.
