Hi, I own a Vito 112CDI 2002 model, we had to change the piston rings because the last owner was a shit. After that started the trouble. The car starts fine, but the EDC light on the dash is on, and when you touch the throttle pedal just a bit the engine goes off. If you start it again it start normally, but it does not accelerate!
We took to Merc agent in south africa but they couldn't find the problem. We already change the cranckshaft sensor and injectors, but nothing!
Hope sincerely that you guys can help.Thanks.
You have some kind of sensor driven fault, IMHO. If its dieing instantly, then the ECU is most likely telling it to switch off, if its sorta strugling and then choking out, I would say its more likely fuel or boost related. It may even be your throttle pedal (I assume the 112 also has a fly by wire system). Also its most likely related to the work you have done recently.
The best starting point is to get it back on a diagnostic machine to see what fault codes are coming up. I assume u are in RSA, whereabouts? I would recommend my local MB dealer in Boksburg but I would request to stand near it when they plug the unit in.
If you are nearby, i will volunteer to plug my diagnostic into it, it doesnt work great on my 115 but I think it will work better on the 112.
PM me if you are keen.
