Install

This is going into the van:

Bit geeky but it's a car PC with in dash VGA monitor and TV monitor thing.

Basically mines being converted into a camper. I currently have it stripped out as I am installing a heater in between the 2 front seats but here's a rundown of what I have done so far:

Installed leisure battery with split charge relay under the driver's seat.
Flourescent lighting front and back
300W 240V inverter with power under the front seat (2 sockets) and 1 at the back. Useful for charging phones, etc.
SMEV 911 cooker and sink.
Kitchen unit in the back.
Insulated the side and roof of the van with 8 mm fire retardent insulation
Sidelined and rooflined the van with grey cloth (bought from van conversion company).
Took out all the doorcards and remade them with ply (as they were knackered).
Installed sunroof.
Installed Koller seat rails in the back and currently modding some Mazda Bongo seats as bed seats.
Took out double front seat and fitted single. Fitted swivel seats under the bases (front driver's side to go in, passenger fitted).
Car PC to go in.
Tinted side & back windows.
Carpeted the base of the van with blue bathroom carpet.
Respayed to get rust off (creeping back though )

so there you go. When I get the heater fitted I will put my gear back in and get some shots. Externally you would never know (with the exception of the tint) that it's been changed. Stealth camper you see.

cheers

Adam.

Edited to add: Oh, there's a fridge in there too!!! Keep the beers cold.

Nice one mate, I have plans to install a car pc too , I am however, looking to modify the dash as I already have a screen in the dash and in the roof for rear (as in my pics).

What software are you going to install?

I take it, it is a touch screen?

Lets have pics pics pics!

The idea is to run windows media center and infomap (for GPS). The Radio and TV tuners are already in the head unit so I am not going to put those on the PC. It'd got an 80 gig laptop drive in there so all my MP3s and a few videos are going on. I am also going to put on my MB maintenance DVD just in case.

It's has a touch screen, yes.

Once I get the gear back in and the heater installed I will post some pix for you. After that I only have the seats to install.

Ad.

Edit: mp3car.com's awesome if you are going to build a car PC. I see that you could put it in the centre console??

I'll clean mine and then post a few pics...in the mean while, let me spill the beans on what I think I have done and would like to do.

Have done:

Mags with std tyres
Colour coded front and rear bumpers
Aircon fitted
Cruise control fitted
Removed both front seats and replaced with leather covered units from Volvo S40
Leather covered steering wheel
Carpets in front
Moved old front bench seat to rear - hash job done too quickly
Fitted fixed windows to side doors.
UPS fitted under seat to provide 220V (500w) power and option to charge battery
oh and decent radio with Earthquake shallow mount subs and JBL 6x9's with small 800w amp

What I would still like to do:
1. See if MB multifunctional steering wheel will fit and be intergrated into standard electronics
2. Get some electrically and folding and smaller wing mirrors off a Vianeo (sp?) - the one with the intergrated indicator light
3. Tow hitch
4. rear view camera system
5. rear window if above is not so hot
6. upgrade UPS to 1000W inverter - run the occassional power tool
7. fit the roof and side lining I have just been given for free!

Pics to follow
