I have a Vito 114 Traveliner. Its 3.5 years old, done 23k miles and is on its 4th set of front discs.
I have just taken it in for a servive and Merc say it need new disc again. The last ones were fitted last October, 7k miles ago.
I had big rows with Merc last year, but now they are saying that because its an auto, more heat gets generated, warping the discs. I disagree as I live in the country and do about 7k miles a year.
I not have 2 thoughts, let Merc fit new disc every year or fit differnet discs. Has anybody fitted performance discs to a Vito or V-class, what are they like and where do I get them from.
I am sorry that i can not give you specific help BUT, take a moment to sit back and read what you have written from a stangers point of view....
Your discs on average last 6000 miles, most cars and my 115 vito included will get 30 000 miles from pads let alone discs....so clearly yours are not wearing out but warping instead.
After you have finished slapping your dealer silly (please persist with this action, even if somebody appears to have slapped him silly before you, keep at it!)
Ask him, in nice even tones, exactly what characteristic makes an auto do this more so than a manual
Seriously tho', there is NOTHING on this green earth that makes an auto warp its discs more than any manual gearbox vehicle.
There is no need for performance discs, only a need for a strongly worded letter stating what you have been told and by whom (name them and shame them), they are insulting your intelligence and wasting your time, sheez, I am so worked up I could get stuck into them myself!!!!....wait till Sarge hears this one, he will sh!t himself, somebody better send over a paramedic just in case he has palpitations!!!
You need to change your dealer....better still move to an indi rather than a dealer and you won't be ripped-off! New discs @ 7K....not unless they fitted sub-standard, cheapo steel ones (Made in turkey!) in the first place! Lots of imitation iffy parts are shipped from Turkey boxed as genuine merc parts but in fact are like the Rolex watches you buy for a quid at the Spanish beach resort market stalls!
Just a question and no offence or criticism intended, but (as it's an auto) you're not resting your left foot on the brake pedal while driving are you??
Yeah.. that's b****cks. I had the exact same problem on a renault I owned. The problem was that they had not bothered lubricating the calipers (the calipers were floating) which meant that they were continually rubbing on the disc causing them to heat and eventually (because of sh*t french engineering) warped.
If there's any grease nipples down there, check them to see if they have been used... and check to see if there's rubbing of the discs by your brakes (they all do a tiny bit, just to keep your discs rust-free but if it's excessive, it might be the problem. Also, check the temperature of them after driving without using the brakes excessively. If they are burning hot then there's a clue right there.

From the stats you give us it sounds like there's a major (or simple) brake system problem , why do you think you need discs ..is it because THEY said so ?, have you had a look at the discs , if youre going through discs that quick you must have to change your pads weekly, also the fluid will be boiling all the time.Get someone you know to check the calipers for sticking. I dont think even quality discs would last if the pads are constantly rubbing.
Adamuk ? You are asking someone to take the measurement of a brake disc ? What temp would you expect to have at a brake disc on a Vito ? Considering everybody's driving styles are different. Grease nipples ? French vans ? Mmmm not quite the same ?
Consider this....
1 Vehicle is 3.5 years old ?
2 Vehicle has only covered 23,000 Klms Not Miles ?
Makes you think that the vehicle drives alot but doesn't go anywhere, suggesting that the brakes are used alot?
Fufus starts to ask a good question before starting to dealer bash.....Why do you think you need brake disc ? What is your complaint ?
If his discs needed replacing because they were worn then I would agree with you but they are not, they are warped which indicates a very high heat input.
The french wonder had one wheel very hot in comparison to the other which indicated that it was sticking - as in virtually untouchable, probably about 100C+. The actual disc itself would be much hotter.
