Seriously tho', also been wondering about that diagnostic tool MB uses. Had a brief look at one, seems to me to be an industrial laptop with a cable interface (rectangular metal box halfway along the cable to teh plug under the dash.
P'raps some propellor head can help me out here, but essesntially you have one ECU (in da cabby) that communicates on a certain protocol (most likely propriatary), the diagnostic device then has its own software platform to operate off. A protocol converter is probably needed to get the two devices to chat to each other. I am sure there is a good reason for why the two devices dont talk the same language probably related to how the hardware operates.
A local, non MB, Diesel specialist company near me has said that they have a diagnostic tool that can interface with my ECU for reading and resetting codes, I wonder if it can reload other parameters (speed limits, injector timing etc)....anybody else got thoughts on this?
