rest button???

Could any one help i have just brought a 99 vito 110 cdi van and it has a rest button on the heater controll panel witch only lights with the ignition in the off / or acc position . i have no manuals with the van so its a bit of a mystery i think its related to a fuel fired heater mounted under the van on the nearside . when its turned on the interior fan kicks in but no heat or sound from burner outside.
Any tips on this would be much apreciated. THANKS.

The one marked rest is to allow the warm heater to continue after a warm engine is switched off. It does this by having the fan on a low setting and a small electric pump circulates the water through the engine. It runs for quite a while (10-20mins) before turning off by itself and is great with kids when it is cold. Note that the temp setting will effect this, on cold it won't put out hot air ... obvious when said but I have done it cursing lots before realising ...

On mine (a V class) their is a second button between the aircon and the rest button which is a pre-heat button for a cold engine. This uses the same circulation motor above but also turns on a water heater under the car which then makes the engine warm. To be honest other than on a really cold day I haven't used much, also replacement heaters are pricey if they bust.
