Hold your horses! The V230 auto box is a sealed unit which is factory filled with SYNTHETIC GEARBOX OIL. It does not have a 'dip-stick' to check levels. The gearbox is a ZF unit which is also used in Renaults, Alfa, etc. However, the idea is to prevent people unnecessarily tinkering with the gearbox (using wrong oils, etc). It is not recommended to change oil unless you have had the box reconditioned, etc. However, if you have got to the stage of an oil change/refill, check with Merc for the original synthetic oil spec and use that...NOT ANY OTHER![:o)]
MERC DO NOT MAKE OIL, SO YOU CAN BUY SAME SPEC FROM ELSEWHERE MUCH CHEAPER, BUT MAKE SURE IT IS SAME SPEC!
Auto box on mine [vito 114 2.3] is definitely not sealed..
you have 2 plugs,1 for draining and 1 for refill.
first you drain from the bottom and then you refill from the side till the fluid pops out and then you screw it back on.
Unfortunately the filter is inside and cannot be changed unless you take the gearbox apart...
My Vito manual states: auto box oil change at
90000 kms....[55000 miles]
So you have to change it.....
