I was looking for a mechanics creeper that would be suitable for Unimog use. You know the drill, lay on the ground and can't reach the mog underside. Have to partially sit up underneath to do any work. Killer on the midsection. Lay on a creeper and not much improvement but you don't get your back dirty and gravel in your pants.
There did not seem to be a suitable creeper to allow being raised under the Unimog, until I saw this!
At last, a creeper worthy of a Unimog! ..and probably costing nearly as much.
That vid gets copied and reposted all over the place; I've had people send it to me a zillion times with the subject "You need this in your shop." It looks neat, but in real life it wouldn't be vary practical, and it would probably be pretty expensive to make. I have never found any information about price or availability, just the same crappy video. I even saw a version with the Benny Hill theme laid over it.
I first saw this a couple of years ago featured on a TV show called "Invention USA" which aired on the History channel. The full episode which still can be seen in High-Def on Xfinity was called "Stop! In the Name of Glove" which featured a stupid glove with a built in stun gun. The "Human Hoist" was featured on the second half of the show and was very well presented, and was going to be backed for production by DR Power Equipment. Why it's never seen the light of day is probably because they could never get the cost down to a reasonable marketable price.
If this really had been successfully marketed and was available today at a decent price I'd purchase one in a heartbeat!
At any rate if you don't have the time to watch the full show on Xfinity here's a much better video on Youtube in 480p featuring the "Human Hoist":
"was going to be backed for production by DR Power Equipment. Why it's never seen the light of day is probably because they could never get the cost down to a reasonable marketable price."
Marketing product at a reasonable cost doesn't seem to be part of their business model. Don
I just found this on Amazon and decided to purchase one. This gets very good revues, affordable and a compromise at best, but it will definitely raise your head & shoulders to a workable height for working under our Unimogs:
If I was int he mood to salvage something I'd take a stryker power cot. Onboard 24v electro-hydraulic controls and built stryker strong. Good total body support and adaptable from the look of it.
My wife deals with stryker direct if anyone is ballsy enough to try it.
Seems like it would be relatively easy to modify this lightweight transmission jack and add a regular creeper pad/frame...though you'd probably have to lengthen the wheel frame a bit, too.
