Fuel problems engine looses power after a few hours
We have a 366 engine is there a fuel pump before the injection pump. I know of think where the Priming pump is might also have a transfer pump to feed injection pump. Some of the guys thought that it only acts up after fuel tank is down some gone through lines cleaned tank out etc.
Any ideas
One thing I remember reading about on here that involved starvation, but only when the fuel
Level was below a certain level : in that case, there was a hole from corrosion in the
Vent tube, so when the fuel level was low enough to expose the hole in the solid vent tube,
The tank quit feeding, and the engine died.
Sounds similar , at least.
Try cracking the fuel tank cap after it quits and see if it sucks in an air.
I had a 300 with a plugged vent and the symptoms were similar, it would run ok for an hour or so but after a while it lost power. When I told the cap off it sucked in a big gulp of air and the engine would run again.
Replaced fuel filters?
Replaced bleeder screw seals? (they can let air in)
Replaced pre-filter? (inline between manual priming pump and injection pump)
Check fuel for discoloration, especially dark material = algae
...common things that can cause fuel starvation that have not been mentioned.

Hoping that putting a electric pump in line will solve the problem Any more ideas would help as the electric pump might not solve the problem. We will check all the things mentioned.

When the pre-filters get clogged on my 416, it acts that way. It will run well for a while then slowly lose power. I don't know if you have pre-filters, but maybe the added suction of the electric pump overcomes the clog on the (relatively) course screen.

Yes there is a lift pump that is actually attached to the IP. the hand pump is part of this lift pump, mine died "rusted up inside" and It gave strange issues like you mentioned. With a full tank it ran better but not perfect. At full RPM my om352 would run but any idling soon lost fuel and died.
Check these 2 old threads out...
Thanks guys for all your Help we took lift pump off had rebuild done to it and same problem Then I suggested running a fuel line to fuel tank direct by pass all of present fuel line and that solved the problem seems some of the old steel fuel lines might have had a small pin hole and only sucked air when tank got low or engine warmed and under heavy load' It is in a snow cat so but all mercedes diesels same. runs good now snow mobilers will ne happy.
