2014 UGN Unimog

Innovativer Technologieträge gibt Ausblick auf kommende Unimog-Generation ab 2014 | Mercedes-Benz Passion Blog

OK, the blue UGN mule was related to the new one seen testing on the road, with the squiggly art/ Wrap, (and the wipers on top of the windshield )and they were mentioned as 2012 models, I think.

Here is a Euro 6 UGN chassis, with the hydraulics in a different place, aluminum wheels ( could be
Powder coated steel ),
Lots of stuff crammed in everywhere, and a tricky hinged and layered radiator/cooler/condenser , like pages in a book. (Still in the "wrong" place behind the wheels, To my mind...) It appears, however, that the radiator/condeser stack has been rotated 90 degrees, with the fan on the
Inside, pulling air inwards toward the frame ? Part of the ground effects so they can drive on the ceiling, maybe.

It appears that the center radiator is for the Engine ( obvious hoses), and the two on the side are A/C condenser and Oil cooler(s).

Other things to note: 6 Cyl Diesel, and it looks as though the radiator stack is only on the
Driver's side, not both, as before.
But, there is also a center mounted forward radiator with a Hydraulic fan on it....which is new.
It'll be interesting to see the PTO Drive - it appears to zoom right through the radiator, but the
Fan is in the way, and MB would never run a PTO shaft through the middle of a radiator....Would they ?
(Although....there were 411 Snow cutters with the live PTO shaft running through the cab
And out the windshield at about ear level....but no worries , about 8" away from the driver's head....probably Schmidt's Design, not MB's)

Listed as the 2014 Unimog.

Looks sorta H R Giger-Alien in parts.

The weirdest part is that I managed to post a link with the flapjack ! (Nothing like getting poked by a stick for motivation.)

Nice lights. Whens the UHN going to get those?

Geez, I never realized how far back the engine sits in those, its almost mid-engined!

Boy oh boy ! These things are getting more and more complicated (read difficult to work on) !
I like some hi-tech, but I am sure glad I have a simple, easy to work on, "ancient" Mog. You can see and recognise the engine parts. Now you are confronted with a black box !

What are these things going to be like to figure out in terms of repairs in 30 years time ? You may not be able to fix a lot of stuff - I guess then you just remove it if you can - but what about keeping it street legal regarding emissions etc

We wait and see I guess. But then again, maybe I will be dead by then anyway, so it will not matter at all.

Still nice though

That's not "almost mid-engine" That is totally mid-engine.

The UGN is pretty far back but I think this is farther.

Looks nice. I like the U20s and wouldn't mind if the new ones looked more like that.

Looking, I wonder if the mid mount Radiator, and hydraulic fan, isn't at such an angle, the PTO shaft runs right underneath it, just barely, but that's how it looks to my eye. (the front PTO runs directly of the Crank on the UGN does it not?, ie, you have to shut the truck off to stop it?, or was that start it...or am I completely making this up...)

Thanks, Trev

My truck has a lot going on, as most of them do, and I have spent a fair amount of time
Either staring at the systems, or rolling around on a creeper and staring at the systems from
Below.....but I am glad that my truck is Brainless, and not packed as tightly as this chassis...
Acknowledging the fact that this is a shorty...

Note :

Mitas Tires...looks like ( something ) R75 22. ( must be 22.5, eh ?)

The sidewall seems to show MPT-23, which is line with their nomenclature, but not a model that shows up on their site.
75 / 22 also seems to show, but the only MPT on their site is an 18/22.5, and not in that
Pattern.
Everything else in their MPT line (20" rims) is not a 75 profile. So,a new tire maybe, or I am reading the sketchy sidewall info incorrectly.
The tread pattern is almost a dead ringer for BFG BAJA TA " Projects" , interestingly enough.

No sign of PTO shaft running under tilted front radiator. It may be there, but it looks like it
Might drop down at the engine and pop back up at the front bumper.Maybe.
( I agree with Trev, it most likely runs under the radiator, but it does not seem to show up
In the one side shot of that area...Just hidden under all of that other gack ...Maybe it
Runs downhill a little bit to clear the radiator, then pops up with a taller box than the current UGN runs ? )

The condenser ( with attached dryer ) and the heat exchanger live in a layered stack : shroud,
Framed mesh panel, condenser, cooler, then the fan. Pretty tricky, and the mesh panel could
Be easy to clean, by swinging it out and hosing it down or blowing it out from the backside.
edit : in looking closer, it looks like the mesh panel caps the shroud, with the heat exchangers inside the shroud, and the fan capping the inside end, as you would expect, not how I called it
Out above...

High bracket ( the only high point shown ) might be the mount for the exhaust stack, since
The air cleaner is on the other side.

The air cleaner is easy to get to, and the domed plastic cage at the aft end must mate up to
The snorkel, I'm thinking.

Permanent step in front bumper looks like a target for a rock, but is probably not much lower
Than the axle tube.

Looks like the batteries are on the passenger side, aft of the AdBlu Tank, with the fuel tank
On the driver's side, aft of the cooler stack.
The box / facade under what I think is the battery hatch might house the air tanks. They
Have to be somewhere, and there are not a lot of other choices.
