Ok been off the forum for fear of anti pimping rules, but it's time to start pre pimping! just joking...

After really getting into the 416 Cummins swap we decided for this event the stiffer chassis U1700 will be a more attainable race truck in the short time frame we have

We only have a little over a couple months to finish our 1985 U1700 Rallye Unimog.

Pulling the 10 bolt axles and swapping in the heavy duty 6 bolt 2 piece high speed units.
Quickest way for 450 continuous HP will be a Cummins 5.9 24 valve w/ P7100 pump and the common rail VGT turbo w/manual vane control. Twin prototype 22,000lb 2 speed hyd. winches w/ pneumatic actuating free spool and gear changes, CTIS, signature style bull bar, Ultra high power prototype LED light bars w/ dimming and remote control aiming witch we will be marketing for off road use after the event, tree cage, over kill tranny cooling and filtration as well as drive train pressurization and an insane ammount of engine cooling and intercooling, 445/70 24 XM 47's or the Conti AGs to name a few.

If anyone out the that has some serious fab skills we need help to finish this in time. If interested drop us a line @ 888-X-UNIMOG ext #3

Will try to post photos, but it may not really get posted till after the truck leaves for Germany.

We need the following parts:

single clutch assembly complete, or whatever we can piece together.
A late model w/ the 360mm over the 330mm disc is preferred.

U1200/U1300 drive shafts

the torque tube mounting shells x2 For mounting the tubes to the t-case

If anyone knows where we can get this stuff ASAP please let me know.

We will be the first American team to compete in this event so we really want to make a good impression.

Thanks in advance

Would you not be better aiming for 2012 with the right mog rather than rush to get the wrong mog built, as IMO you would do better with a MWB mog which are inherently more stable at speed due to there slightly slower reaction to inputs and arguably better off road than SWB mogs due to the extra axel articulation due to chassis flex and better grade-ability, also given the amount of other vehicles of different sizes you stand more of a chance of having at lest 1 axel out of any small/deep mud holes/ruts etc.

Also a MWB mog gives more room to distribute load evenly and lower so you can get the best weight distribution.

As for engine HP, yes its nice to have power but maximum power is far from everything required when arguably engine flexibility is far more important, after all do you really want to arrive at a corner/drop-off/river crossing/deep ruts/sand dune/etc/etc at a speed that outstrips the mogs ability along with your own driving ability because the engine is inflexible at lower RPM’s which means hundreds of extra gear changes each day because you have a narrow usable RPM band, after all there wont be many places you will need 450hp for top speed but there will be meny meny miles ware medium and lower RPM will be needed.

I'm with Trev- either grab the Blue Truck, which was converted from a RW-1 by the Hellgeths, or maybe try and track down this 416, which has also gone through the Hellgeth shop, and has run the raid previously. I thought I saw it for sale at one point, not too long ago, but in any event, if it is sitting, maybe you could work out a lease deal for the event.

You'd still be an American Team, the Red 416 is already in Europe, and the experience you gain would set you right to build your own Truck for Next Year's event, and give you time to execute it without so much of a rush.

Who knows, maybe the Hellgeth's would work a lease out for the Rag-Top silver one.
And There have been a number of Raid-Prepped SBU's for sale over the last year...you
might be able to rent one for the price of shipping a SBU over and back...

Just a thought

Looks like the Hellgeths wont be racing this year and the Paco Paco and the grey one are already leased for the rally to people in Europe.

There are few rally trucks in europe for sale but the least expensive at the moment is 18.000 euros to the one bellow that is going for 66k so not a very good option.

I recognize that 366LA engine... it has been sitting in my shop before! It's a shame that it has that giant air/water intercooler hanging off the side in such a way that it really doesn't fit under a SBU cab. With the correct manifolds and a different intercooler, it would really be nice in a mog.

Jay,

I shipped out those parts on Friday, I will call you with the particulars tomorrow.

On the '99 24 valve cummins, it isn't in the series of the first 24v's that had problems with cracking blocks, is it? I've swapped out cracked blocks on 3 '99's that cracked due to faulty castings, and I would hate to be in a competition and have one fail. The casting number is 53 fwiw.

Cheers,
Ben

Crap! says it's exceeded the size allowed???
just means total pixals too large for that one pic. Use a simple photo editor to crop and/or shrink the size. A good size for internet is 800x600 pixel. Most pic. programs will auto adjust for you. type in 800 for the width or height (which ever is bigger) and program will auto adjust the other to keep the proportions of the pic correct.
