Vinyl is a lighter than paint and with the right surface prep will peel right off with a heat gun when it's time for a change. My plan of attack would be to prep the body work in a base color, apply all the required rallye signage and sponsor decals and then give a heavy glazing clear-coat over all of it to make cleaning and the all important "brand visibility" a snap.

The new generations of 3d foil veneers are fairly amazing in terms of optical effects. Check out the 3M Dry Carbon Fiber Foil Wrap to see what I mean. The old days of "carbon fiber" meaning a mess of dark and darker gray squares on a black grid are over with the advent of polyester mircofibre tows being laminated right to the vinyl giving you the optical effect of the base laminate and the correct (or correct enough) depth once top coated. I can send cabinets out now and have them vacuum coated with foil veneers that look and feel like hammered copper or hydrocrete, no reason why you could have an SBU cab done the same way. Might look rather cool to have a bubinga unimog.

Test running the race mog we now call Bam Bam. Holy shit it is FAST!!!!!!!!!!

Dealing w/ some major timing issues for the last week here. We are way too advanced at 28degrees, but it won't get up to 3400 RPM any other way. May pull the pump and recalibrate it again.

Build Update

Hey guys, Bryan here. Time is getting short, as you all know. Jay has had the truck running several times now, shaking out the bugs. He has found that the clutch he had built was insufficient to handle the power to weight ratio that exists, so another is being built to resolve the problem. Overall, the truck is fast and gets airborne easily from all the power under the hood.

Jay is trying to resolve an IP timing issue - it's a strange one that makes no sense, so it is extremely irritating!

The tires and wheel are both in, and mounted. Boy do they look nice! The CTIS is plumbed up and the setup is very slick.

The truck has to be taken to NY instead of Houston now, so that is going to add a bit to the timeline as well.

3400 RPM is right around stock redline for the 24V cummins. You can go higher, but you may need to start replacing valve springs etc.

Power and fuel consumption takes a serious hit at these RPM's but I am sure Jays need is for top speed only.

Like I said before in another post, I like the vinyl but ... not sure how well it'll hold up with the twigs and branches? What happens when you start rubbing against some trees?

Also, what happened to the other bumper? The other one looked bigger?

Body damage/scrapes etc. is not unusual in hardcore events rather it be painted or vinly covered so he may not care if it gets torn.

bumper; saw the differences too, maybe needed to lighten things up?

I certainly can't speak for him though.... just guesses.

Didn't he say it is a multi-piece affair? It would make sense to save on shop space when not needed.
