Wow, I'm only pulling 18" stuff, that's one awsome log. Now, how do you mill something like that..........really big saw!!!
Tructor, I'm also curious on that type of winch. The one I have brewing right now essentially would be a version of a four point lift (opposed to three point, thus having two upper arms), but I briefly considered some type of track, which this one seems to work on that concept. I played around with making tracks and using hoists or pistons to raise and lower it (also with out a bottom shoe due to loading, I think the winch would be more than capable) but gave up due to the slop that would eventually be made as the two tracks wore into one another. Slide gates (fluid flow control structures) work on the same concept but with the frequent usage of the slides and amount of loading I expect that shims wouldn't be a good solution.
Farmerben, you got a Farmi some time ago, are you happy with it? Any design changes you would like? Kimosawboy, you work your machine all the time, how to you twitch logs? Would any of you be willing to share photos? I'm getting much closer to actually fabricating this thing so improvments before the fact would be a good thing. I also plan to make some nice swivel fairleads, which will be fabricated, as shown in a previous thread, from my Dakota front wheel bearing sets. So much to make, so little time.
Thanks for help and sharing the video. That's fun stuff.
