I have been getting about 10mpg on my 406, seemingly regardless of load and or speed (I keep records very well). Of note though, I'm not sure if my odometer is accurate, so that must be checked, and I have only been able to put about 800miles on is since purchase and every time I run it, it gets happier and happier (ie, easier starting, less smoke, smooth idle attained sooner, etc.), so I'm hoping that as I clean out the fuel system both with fuel flow as well as physically, my economy will go up.

As promised before, I'll share my data when I have enough of it to have some meaning.

In super crawler with the 20 speed, that would not be a problem.

Maybe he is just referring to MPG while it is being towed on a trailer?

Either way, I like the suspension. Seems to articulate nicely.

I just replied too.

I wrote:

"Dude, 4000 hours? 35MPG?

Come on."

4000 hours is more than I put in at work in a year (I work an average of 2280 hours per year). That's more than two solid years.

$65000? Who does he buy his parts from?

In no way shape or form, do I see the "...valley you" in this truck. Hopefully, enough people beat the guy down about misrepresenting his rig. Nice rig, but not even in the ballpark of being as valuable as it seems to be to him.

Even with my 12v Dodge towing, 18mpg max, if I drive politely. .

I had been trying to bite my tongue and not say anything to this guy but I can not help myself any longer...
Here is my email to him...
I know there have been a few guys mentioning this but, your ad is really stretching the truth. Anyone who has a mog certainly knows what king of mileage they can get. I drive a 79 416 Doka and I KNOW there is NO way it will get 35mpg. maybe 15 more like 12-13. If you worked every day for 2 years, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week...you may have near 4000 hours into it.
I also understand how an owner values their Unimog....but thinking it is worth 65,000 in today's market....?????
It is maybe worth near 20K in today's unimog market....

That said......good luck.

For the record, so you know I am not talking out of my ass...here is my rig

The 35mpg Mog owners response....

I've owned it roughly 5 years, and the motor that it came with is barely broken in. I imported it from Germany, and, with all sincerity, it *does* get more mileage per gallon than any vehicle I've ever owned. I've done the math, and with a 20 gallon tank I've averaged 700-780 miles per tank, not kilometers. I know that there are a few "unimog mechanics" out there that claim that those particular vehicles cannot possibly get that much per gallon, but whoever built my mogs engine in Germany did something right. Diesel engines do get better mileage, and my mog is living proof.

Thank you for your response and well wishes.

Shawn.

I forgot to even mention the "wenches"....what a nutcase...??!!!
