XXX Battery (ies)?

Looking for some input re: battery for a 406 (Case). Ran across a previous thread (back in 2005) that referenced the Deka Seamate in size 4D...

This sucker weighs in at 129 pounds and I can purchase locally for $415.59 + tax.

On the other hand....

I'm currently running dual red-top Optimas in my diesel F250 and a single in my Ford tractor (4 cyl. gas) with very good results.

Optimas can be found locally for ~$140 each.

So, the question is: Is the Deka worth the cost? I like the idea of a big-assed submersible battery in the mog, but $415 is a healthy chunk of change.

Is a single Optima up to the task? If so, would a blue top be a better option?

How about dual Optimas? Dual would run close to $300, of course.

I'm running Napa Commercial (just looked, can't find battery number). Took battery compartment measurements to Napa, told them I wanted the most cold cranking amps that could fit. Nowhere near the price for your high dollar battery (albeit in last year's prices). Have been very happy.

Where the terminals are located on battery likely also an issue - depending on the length of your cables.

Ah, of course. I'm planning on relocating the battery to the bed (in between the Case decks), however.

I have that exact Deka battery (it was probably my thread). It cost me a little more then half of that from a marine supplier in FL (including shipping) back a few years ago - guess they've gone up in price just like Optima's.

The Deka has the terminals in the right place. It is, I think, deep cycle rated (you need to go to Optima Yellow tops at more $$$ for this) and it also has roughly 2-3 times the capacity of Optimas (120 A/h - or something like that vs what ? 40 A/h ?? )

Which unless your often using the starter to drive on over obsticals or winching with the motor off.... the Deka sounds to me to be about 70-80 A/H's more than you need?

What in your case Mogasaurus made you fee you needed so many A/H?

For what it's worth, I generally try to shoehorn the same giant battery in all of my trucks, that way when one craps out on sunday night in december, I'm just cold not stuck. I've found that the size/group for the mercedes 123 diesels has the best CCA for the $$$. I find that one runs my mog just fine, now that I've got the starter and wiring sorted, though at $100 average (I buy international) you could easily double up. I don't recall what the CCA is, only that it was well above everything else on the shelf, and comparable to some smaller industrial batteries.

Tractor Supply 4D. I think our last one ran about $175.00. Good luck.

Mogasaurus - Ja, it was your thread (linked above). So is that a thumbs up on the Deka, even at $415? It sounds like a killer battery, and if it lasts 10 years, I'd be happy to spend the cash.

tmlkenney - I checked out my local tractor supply but no luck on a 4D. I'll have to keep looking.

I figured, since Ma Benz decided she would put a 4D battery on my vehicle at the factory, I would continue to use one.
