I can't comment on the price - that's for the individual buyer to decide. Like I said in the 2005 thread, I paid ~$250 delivered. At the time, it was competitive with any other 4D AGM solution. Optima yellow tops were ~$130 each then, so it was competitive with that route also and a lot less of a hassle with re-cabling and tie-down changes.
There MAY be better solutions today - I haven't needed to investigate.
AMS Batteries still exists but I don't see the 4D battery listed. He has the 8D for only a little more then you're saying the 4D would cost you ($455) so I suspect he could get you the smaller one for cheaper.
