U1300 Vertical Exhaust

As the exhaust on the 425 1300 is pretty rotten, it'll need replaced and we're thinking about putting a vertical system on it.

Notice that alot of the systems just seem to consist of the stack itself along with a 90 degree bend. Question is, does this fix on to the stock silencer box? Or does it join straight through from the pipe that from the from the turbo down pipe without using a silencer?

Photo's would be a great help...

Input on any custom systems would also be appreciated as been looking at the idea of taking a custom vertical pipe up between the rear of the cab and the tipping body to avoid the pipe being so close to the door as seen in most genuine/pattern systems.

Regards
Ross

Ross,

Not an SBU but....

My 416 that needed the muffler replaced so I bought all the parts and went to a local family owned Mineke shop. They custom fabricated a nice set of dual stacks for me. They are bent to fit the cab's contour to allow for side tipping. The stock muffler outlet is piped to a Y right under the back of the cab. when a rain cap is jammed closed by a tree branch on tight trails the other pipe just pops open wider. I used rubber mounts behind the cab to allow frame / cab flex. I think the whole set up was right around $300.00. If you do something like this remember to use some high temp RTV Silicone to seal everything up at the joints. Especially if you venture into water. Also I have the N/A engine and the pipes never heat up that much. You may need some heat shields with a turbo motor which will be a bit of a challenge with the tipper.

Nice set up there. Black stacks go great with the colour of your machine.

Over here in the UK we dont really have anything like the Mieneke chain. In fact to be honest trying to get hold of anything automotive thats custom is pretty tough. Especially here in rural Scotland...

The stock muffler is beyond repair and assume without it, just piping straight through, it would sound terrible!

No SBU owners got a stack setup?

Ross

its just a 90deg upturn off the sliance box, and the stack just has a larger pipe end than that of the 90deg upturn pipe to alow the cab and chassis to twist

Hi Ross

As B101UK says, the stack is just a loose fit over a 90 degree bend off the exhaust box.

I have a stack lying around that I removed from mine. PM me if your interested.

Oh Gee's totally forgot. If I'm not mistaken one method of doing the stacks is to mount it to the cab buttt.. the base of the stack is a slip fit over the top of the exhaust pipe that is attached to the frame.

This way when you tilt the cab the exhaust stack tilts right along with it. Granted this leaves a short tube of open exhaust sticking in the air.

My guess is the bottom end of the stack is sorta like a fat funnel in shape to aid in the slip in and out of the fixed pipe below it durring tilting
