PTO not responding to clutch..

Hi everyone,

Just lately, when the clutch is depressed, i cant shift the PTO into gear, front or rear, without some grinding into position. This has not been a problem in the past. it feels like clutch isn't disengaging the for the PTO. The clutch does however disengage the transmission/cascade/etc. any thoughts? thanks in advance.

Also, I had put a new clutch master on, but didnt replace the slave at that time. I do however have a new one that havent got around to putting on.

There are two clutch disc, one for the tranny and one for the PTO. Most likely the PTO disc is shot or out of adjustment. you can adjust it while the clutch is in the truck, just follow the shop book, it tells you how to do it.

Von,

Could it also be that the clutch master or slave cylinder needs replacing, or there is air in the line?

When I got my 406, the PTO was doing the same thing as yours. I adjusted it by following the manual, and now it works like properly.

-You mean using the feeler gauge? I only see that adjustment.

Also check to see that the cam bolt atop the clutch pedal didn't get turned when you installed the new master cylinder. If it turned it could be that it decreased the throw of the clutch pedal.
