Cylindrical would probably be easiest to source here in the states. I would most likely need to fab up some mounts. What kind of sending unit do most of these tanks use? Do the sending units normally come with tanks...I would assume so, since they are all different shapes and sizes.

Some Aluminum tanks.

Senders usually come with the tanks, if custom built or stock...

Truktor and Endo911rs, I've asked before on this list and the exchange, does anyone know what the ohm range is for full and empty? My tank is poo and I'm looking at buying or building another. The factory sending unit is unique the way it mounts in the on the tank and a VDO universel for a boat may be easier to mount.

404's and 406/416's range is zero to about 200 Ohms. It's an easy test, just place a variable resistor between the two wires on your tank sender (disconnected, of course) and vary the resistance to see full scale on the dash gauge, then measure resistance of the pot.

Hate to ask this but since you guy's are on the subject of fuel tanks, I see someone on the exchange is advertising a mog for sale and he says it has a "forestry tank". What exactly does that mean?
Thanks,
MUD

A 'forestry tank' is a super-rugged fuel tank. The ones I've seen are actually made out of a length of large diameter mechanical tubing ("pipe") with end caps welded on. You could high center the entire truck on it and not worry about a puncture.

So called because they were popular with Mogs used in the logging and timberlands conservation industry, where an errant stump or snag might hole or remove a normal tank.

Actually, I am in the market for a custom size tank that will fit inside the frame rails, directly under my flatbed (maybe actually ATTACHED to the flatbed so I don't have to worry about the normal frame flex issues when hard mounting things).

I'll take it in stainless or aluminum with a underside skid, about a 30 gallon unit, with anti-slosh baffles and a stock Mog pickup/fuel float, thanks...

Well, this one has the baffles in, but I think it is bigger than 30 gals.
