My 404 has been on a rolling maintenance schedule over the last 18 months and its time for the fuel system. Its a TLF with the supplementary fuel pump in the tank (which doesn't work at the moment). Did the main tank first and replaced the strainers and interconnect tube. Started on the aux tank and removed the fuel return line fitted to this model....to find it went nowhere. Looks like someone has twisted the end of the pipe off just where it bends up towards the carb.
Checked over the carb, which looks new, and can't find out where the fuel return would come from if the supplementary pump was operating. Perhaps this carb is configured for the non supplementary pump models!
There is no info in the workshop manual and only a few lines in the handbook. Can anyone help with how the fuel return line is plumbed in to the TLF fuel system. The rest of the system is 100% stock for this model so theres no modifications to confuse the issue.
Many thanks to John and Jeff who replied off-line. Problem solved thanks. For all those who didn't know, the fuel return is via a banjo fitting "Tee'd" into the fuel supply line where it enters the Carb.
The Fuel pump is a pretty simple affair that should be easily refurbished if you have one. I've given this one a clean up and dressed up the gasket faces, washed out the motor, cleaned the com and it tests OK.
