Engine Oil Comparison

I thought I would post a link to a seemingly unbiased comparison of diesel engine oils done at the request of another board I belong to. This was done by the Turbo Diesel Register a club and publisher of a periodical for Dodge/Cummins owners. The overall gist would be that since none of us have engines that require the CJ-4 spec oil we should avoid using it. Vital additives had to be sacrificed in the name of emissions compliance so as not to foul soot traps.

Thanks b_d - article has been saved locally in case the same thing happens to it that happened to the great oil filter test a few years ago.

There goes my love for Rotella T. Buying Mog oil isn't as easy anymore

While we are on the subject of motor oil. There is a website called the www.themotoroilsite.com. You can down load the Motor oil bible. It has "everything you were afraid to ask" about oils. Excellent stuff.

for a om352/A MB 227.0, MB 227.1 or MB 228.1 spec SHPD oil.

for a om366/A (non euro & euro I) a MB 228.1 spec SHPD oil.

for a om366/A (euro I & euro II) a MB 228.3 spec SHPD oil or MB 228.5 spec UHPD oil.

Note: any oil it better than no oil! But you may have to reduce the drain interval & change the filters more often.

do not use:

MB 228.31 spec oils (diesel engines with diesel particulate filters) (API CJ-4)

or

MB 228.51 spec oils (diesel engines complying to EURO IV with BLUETEC soot particle filters)
