oh... and I forgot about this part.. talk about LAME. They painted the canvas top with auto paint. That is going to crack and get ugly realllll fast. Will probably destroy the top cause it will make the actual canvas crack and not just the paint layer.
oh, wonder what happens when you dump 2 yards of sand in the tipper bed...surely those cracks betwean the pressure treated boards are not to close that river sand wont run out like water?
Wow, guess I should have enlarged some of the little photos before posting this. On closer inspection, this is a total piece of crap. My apologies go out to Von!
I wouldn't put this truck in the category "piece of crap", but also wouldn't group it with Von's work or other full restorations. Without seeing it in person it is hard to tell, but I would say that it was a fairly clean truck that was sprayed all silver. It probably isn't a bad Mog, but probably not worth as much as the owner is trying to get for it (and a lot of that has to do with the fact that everything in sight has been painted silver). If the owner had actually taken the care and time to dissasemble the truck and paint everything individually and replace anything that needed attention, and painted the frame and such in it's original colors (or at least something with some contrast), then it would truly be a nice truck and probably worthy of the price tag.
Cheers,
Ben

That's a very good analogy, I wonder which of us is most familiar with the intricacies of which?
Let's also meditate on the fact that it's not a soft top 406. It is a hard cab truck that has the top and rear chopped off and a canvas top bodged onto it. I bet it's a rust bucket under all that pretty silver paint - I can't think of any other reason to cut up a hardcab that way. I bet that windshield is pretty exciting when you're bumping around - there's very little holding the A pillars on that style cab when the top and rear are missing.

Aaron,
I think that cab is stock for a 64' If you look at Alan Draper's 406 of the same vintage you will see that he has the same cab with curved windshield and doors that look like hardtop doors. I see that the truck sold for $20k so someone must like the color silver!
This is the reply I got after I called the seller out on going nuts with the silver paint:
"I never go nuts... I'm very calculated and meticulous. The wheels were powdercoated red prior to my ownership. I chose to have the outer rims only painted silver(sanded, sealed, primed, base-coat, clear coat). I've seen many other Mogs with the inner wheels left red, mine are a little dusty from overspray, but it wipes right off. The top was dyed grey to match the silver and it does still shed water(per my description) but has patches(per my desc)... If you want to spend the money you can have a new one made... the top is 43 years old, If you've ever seen one that old that is not shredded and falling apart, send me a photo of it. "Factory" to me means: not modified, not added to, not chopped, original parts etc. "Fresh paint" means it's been painted (professionally). It is a very nice Mog. The only full silver 406 I've ever seen and solid."
