We have two duff fuel tanks, and want to relocate them, so I'm thinking single aluminum tank moved back and up a bit. I've toyed with the idea of having a "satellite" tank attached with a couple of hoses inside the chassis.
I was going to have one made until I realised I could do everything except weld it - which my qualified neighbour could do.
I'm happy making it, having a gauge, a filler, a breather etc - but - what about getting fued out again? Is it worth having baffles or some kind of surge pot or sump? A solid pipe from the top, or a hanging tube with a weight, like many boats do.
I too have been looking to repalce the steel tank on my mog. The problem I've been running in to is that there are plenty of nice second hand aliuminum diesel tanks out there but the OEM size is so small that a standard tank is too large in diameter ! Cutting down an overly long tank would be easy but the diameter is the trick.... Has anybody seen any 20" round or rectangular tanks out there ??? The ATL H1 fuel bladder is nice but 25 gal... probably pretty pricey too ! The Atkinson tanks are nice too but £475.00 + VAT, shipping etc... would be ridiculous.
Look for used part yards that deal with local haul rigs like say cab forward furniture trucks, delivery trucks etc. They should have smaller diameter cylinder or square tanks than big rigs.

jim for what you use yours for you could baffle it but i would use the open cell foam you can get it from any motorsport store
what size are you thinking
I was thinking about 15 gallons. 10 gallons in a rectangular tank just under the bed in front of the back wheel, with another 5 gallons in a satellite tank just inside the chassis.
We have to replace the tanks, and since we will go LPG there's a limit to how many fuel switches I want. One tank = simple plumbing!

just go with a single tank (why do you need a satelite tank any way) if you make the tank longer but with a sloping bottom it wont affect your ground clearance much
you can allways make a tank gaurd for it (5mm alloy cheqer plate would look good and protect it)
or what about using a suzuki supercarry pick up tank(had one in the zook would fit purfect as a replacement for the originals)
