om352 valve clearance

I have a 1970 406 and I have my valve cover off to fix my fuel return line and decided to adjust my valves while I'm there but I can not find the specs anywhere. Does anyone have a clue ? It would be good to have cold specs. Any help would be appreciated. Also I am trying to find a fuel return line so I don't have to try to silver solder mine back together. Thanks -Jeff-

My manual says: intake 0.20 mm, exhaust 0.30 mm for cold engine. I don't know what that would convert to in inches though - my feeler gauge set is in metric.

I hope this helps.

Where / how did you break the line? I broke mine doing something Really stupid, but it brazed together nicely. Von's got a doa 352, maybe you could get the return line from him? HTH and good luck.

Yes I too did somthing stupid. A couple of years ago I wanted to take out my injectors to have them re-calibrated and not knowing they are under the valve cover the first thing I did was loosen the last line which I later figured out is the exit out of the head fitting . Well where the line makes a 90 then a 180 under and out it taffyed up and was done. I had to cut out the twisted up piece then spliced in a small piece of rubber hose and I have been worried about it every day since. I decided to pull it apart and fix it right so I would quit worring about it every time I run it. As I'm trying to fix it now I remember why it ended up with rubber hose on it and find myself wishing I had a better one to use and that I would not have been an idiot taking it apart. The good news is that after about 20 phone calls I did find a new valve cover gasket. Thanks for the valve clearence specs , I will adjust them tomorrow. I have until the end of the month to get it running again then I need the Mog for a job.

Well, I was able to silver solder a piece into my fuel return line and adjusted my valves- ones toward the front of the motor were a little tight and ones toward the back of the motor were a little loose. I ran it with the valve cover off to check for fuel leaks and all was good. Put my new valve cover gasket on, buttoned up the motor and while I was there I cleaned out my oil bath air filter, added new oil and went for a test drive. The motor definitly sounds a little less noisy and seems to have a little more power. I think one of the exhaust valves was a little too tight and may have been hanging open enough to loose a little compression. Does every one run the original oil bath air filter or is there some better set up? Thanks for all the help from everyone. -Jeff-

I think the later dry filter is better, but that's because I have one on my truck

Simple and no worries about oil in the intake at, ummmm, "extreme" angles.

valve adjustment interval = every 600hours or 20000km whichever is first.

FYI: in servicing 300 hours = 10000km & is multiples there of i.e.

900h = 30000km
1200h = 40000km
1500h = 50000km
1800h = 60000km
2100h = 70000km
2400h = 80000km
etc = etc
etc = etc
etc = etc
