| Trip Report So I left St Pete FL on March 3 at 1 pm in my '72 404.013 headed for my place in Stowe VT.
After 45 hours on the road, traveling 1550 miles, and consuming 142 gallons of gas, I pulled in around 10am on Sunday the 5th.
I averaged 80-90 km/hr, and stopped for 20-30 minutes every 200 miles for fuel and to check fluids. There was a few hours of sleep each night, but pretty much a non-stop journey.
I added two quarts of oil to the motor, but all the other levels stayed stable.
The interstate was no problem (95 to the Jersey turnpike to the Garden State throughway, then up 87, and across 4) There were some long grades in Virginia where I was down to 70km, but still in 6th. The state highways in VT were a different story, having to pull up some 10% grades from a virtual stop was a challenge to hold 4th gear, but the truck never even hesitated, a trip to the scales at the dump after I arrived was somewhat telling 7240 lbs - yikes - I guess the box Rosenbauer put on the back is as heavy as it looks.
I was an instant celebrity everywhere I drove, and didn't get one negative comment. Even met a gent named Andre from the same small village in Austria the truck came from, who was shocked (to say the least) to see such a vivid memory from his past in his new home.
My advice for anyone contemplating a Mog adventure - DO IT!
