In the spirit of this season of Religious celebration I want to offer to everyone a New tool as a gift, but then we like to give as well as recieve rightttt Welllll...... what about
TOOL RENTAL PROGRAM. There are so many Mog special tools. Some Mog people have bought a few, others have made them... used them once, (cause thats all it took) and now they collect dust.... Welll, Lets make them available to our Mog friends.
You could rent out your tools out of the goodness of your heart or you could do it to defray/cover the cost of the tool(s ) you bought for yourself.
Here is a sample of how this can be done

Hey George,
I really appreciate you taking the initiative to try to set this up. I’ve got the complete MB head tool set for the OM352. I don’t have a problem lending it to true members of the mog community. If it is someone that has been posting for a while, that contributes I’m all about returning the favor. The thing is that the set is very hard to replace and I don’t want to send it to someone that just pops up and keeps it. I also don’t want to take deposits. Anyway if you are a for real mogger and need the head tools, I got you covered. If you’re a scammer you’ll feel the wrath of the mog brotherhood.
Hey George,
I really appreciate you taking the initiative to try to set this up. ... {I can loan head tools to real mogger...}

Bob maybe the way to "practically apply" your desire is to requiest that before you loan someone tools (they pay shipping) you need a recomendation from a fellow mogger; whom you know and trust, unless of course you already know and trust the person in question.
If this sounds about right let me know and you can be the first on the list.
I think you would have to make this a bit mroe organized. Maybe some kind of Pay pal Account or the like that people can make $5 donations to when they need a tool. Then if a tool is scammed, the amount for replacing the tool is taken from the account to replace the tool. It still wont work very well, and I really dont think many people will use it. Their really is not much need for special tools on these trucks. Most can be recreated with standard tools available at napa, and the rest can be machined for very little, and usually for much less than the cost of the original tool. I really cannot think of a single specialty tool I would ever need for either of my trucks. And to date I have torn down every part, minus the M180 engine. And that is no great task. When i was a tech at Land rover, we had a whoel wall of specialty tools. I only used one pair, which was a fan removal tool. Otherwise, better tools were always available from snap-on etc.
I imagine that the SBU series might have a higher requirement for special tools, and the diesels might need a bit more attention than the diesel I have. But I admit that aside from driving a 1550, I do not have as much experience with the later models.
I'm willing to give it a try. Anyone you vouch for can borrow the haed tool set, if they pay shipping. The set contains the tools to remove the injector lines, remove the rocker arm sets, pull the injectors and the adaptor to do a compression check.
There are quite a few big-ass pullers and holding fixtures needed for disassembly of the OM352, but they're all readily available on Ebay if you really need them.
I bought the entire ex-BW OM352 "special tool set" for ~$300 on Ebay right after I got my 416 - it has everything you need for both head/injector and lower end work. I still see those kits pop up once in a while.
Hell - there was a complete 352 head tool set about 2 weeks ago that sold for $1.50 USD !!! I would have paid a heck of a lot more then that ($10 !!! [:p] ) if I had remembered the auction. I think most serious owners find a way to get the stuff they need.
One thing that WOULD be a great tool bay item is a loaner cab support set (for both single cabs and Doka's). If anything, having a real one to reference would make it a lot easier to build your own.

Paypal great Idea. I actually would suggest each person interested in loaning tools look at it like Autozone. The deposit for a tool is a fee that is the dollar value of an expensive version of the tool your loaning out. Tool not returned... well you got cash in hand (paypal?) to replace it. You give the cash back when the tool comes back. I guess if someone wanted me to be an escrow holder I could do that.
What ideas do ya'll like or not like about the way it is being done at:

I have just purchased a hydraulic cab tilting system and a box of Unimog chassis/axel/bush tools for >U1000 and above, for £335 of ebay,
So if any one is interested in the measurements of hydraulic cylinder, I will provide them when it actually gets hear.
Apparently the only bits missing from the kit is a 19mm Alan socket and the ball joint splitter for the draglink etc, so I may be able to help the UK contingent.
I have the tools for removing the check valves for the engine mounted air compressor. I made a set in my machine shop but they were not heavy duty enough to remove the stuck parts in my compressor head so I broke down and bought the "real deal" ouch! They work great.
A very complete set of taps and dies covering 1mm to 24mm in several pitches. The set covers every thread I have encountered on a Mog.
I'm willing to let others use them but no tools leave my property. If you need to use them contact me and we can set up a day and time to meet at my shop in NJ.
