I trust Gino Lancellotti at German Auto Specialist in Simi Valley.
His address is 2180 1st St., Simi Valley 93064.
I bought a 1984 500sel that was in a garage for 20 years, had 54,000 miles and rarely started. It had almost no power, a high idle, and felt like it was firing on 6 cylinders.
I took it to the MB dealer in Thousand Oaks since a MB tech friend of mine couldn't figure out how to get it running smoothly and they told me that all the vacuum lines and all the manifold gaskets would have to be replaced at a price of around $2,000.
That quote gave me some incentive to poke around online for an indie shop locally and that's how I found German Auto Specialist. Great reviews and it was just down the street from where I lived at the time.
Gino, the owner, grew up wrenching on old W126s with his dad since his dad did grey market conversions back in the day and he was able to sort out the fuel injection gremlins and trouble shoot all the problems it had from sitting for so long and his hourly rate was VERY reasonable. I saved about 25% compared to the dealer. I now take my W210 E55 there for all services and recommended him to my friends that have MBs as well and they are all very grateful for the recommendation.
Definitely give Gino a try if you have a German vehicle. He is a really nice man and very professional. Oh. Plus, his shop is SPOTLESS and his office is really cool.
