I'd also have my vote for Ernie's shop. He really knows his stuff. He's worked on all of my family's Mercedes, which ranges from my 240D, my E320, an 06' E350, and even a new 08' C350. He really knows his stuff about these cars. He was able to take my 240D for a 30 second drive and was able to diagnose what was already wrong with it, which included the poor shocks and the replacement of all the filters as well as the glow plugs, but the glow plugs even I knew from reading up on this forum. He even gave me a missing hubcap for my car. He's been in the family for well over 20 years and gives great service.

Actually, the last time I took my car up there, left it for a week, he was swamped with work. But instead of working on my car, I told him I would rather just figure out how to do it myself. He showed me how to do it, and gave me all the parts to change what I needed to change.

Highly highly recommended.

Been going to Ernies for years. Very honest. Heard lots of good things about Silver Star, too.

My R350 is at Stephens Service Center on Elvas, near F in East Sac. We took it in on Friday for the B service and a little rattling under the driver's seat and got a call, halfway through the day, saying it would be $1,250. They found a water leak and an oil leak at the power steering "o ring." Also, my cabin filter needed to be replaced, and a couple Bulletin items - a "magnetic wire strap" replacement and a small round disc (forgot the name) replacement (both should have been done during my A service at the dealership when the car was still under warranty, btw).
They told me they would skip the typical B service and just do the oil change and fix/replace those parts for $1,250. I know without more details, it's hard to advise me on whether or not this price seems reasonable but I was definitely shocked. Especially considering we had the A service done a year ago and none of these issues came up. Any info on this MB service center or the price they are charging me? Thanks!

Without knowing the car it is hard to make a call. But a 2nd opinion is easy to get - I like Ernies on Main (near Wild Sports) -

One other thing - the dealerships - both owned by Von Housens - MB-Sacramento and MB-Rocklin - each have a tech that was on the 7 member US team that took the gold in Germany - IOW 2 of the 7 best in the world, judged by Daimler.

All I know about them is before my W124 E320 was given to me, my grandfather always took it there, to the Stephen's Service Center. Despite telling him that our Ernie was much better priced, he would still take the car over to the service center. While the work was always done, the price was almost always way over what it should have been.

They charged us $4000 to have the air conditioning fixed, which really is more than the car is even worth. It was fixed by them by my grandfather before we could even take it to get a second opinion. Personally, I think they are way overpriced, but the work gets done.

That being said, the A/C still doesnt work very well.

I agree, Robert Allen does great work and is very affordable. Is is a bit of a drive, but well worth it.

They charge the same as dealers charge, they lie the same as dealers do.
Need more? Dis-honest repair shop, I would stay away!
