Very honest non rip off service. Harold is an old time car guy, very good and fair on older Benzes. Doesn't sell you things you do not need.

Totally German Auto

Last night I went the the Bavarian Point Restaurant and Bar. While having a beer or two with some friends we and found Perry Bartnett sitting at the other end of the bar. Perry owns Totally German Auto and as we talked to him I heard one of my favorite quotes of all time:

"I work on German cars of course! I love German cars; Mercedes, BMW, and the others. If I worked on other things like Japanese cars I'd be hanging out at a sushi bar".

There may have been some disgust in his voice as the thought of working on Japanese cars and there certainly was as he scoffed, "sushi bar."

According to Perry he has been in the same location for decades and was helpfull for one of my friends with his BMW and seemed to really know our cars. Next time I need some help I will probably pay him a visit.

Post Couldn't find them in Yellow Pages...

Hi,

I'm a new owner of an older diesel Benz. I live in the East Valley and am looking for a good shop... I tried to look up "Totally German Auto" but couldn't locate it. Do you happen to have contact info?

Thank you!

Hi,

Thanks... I guess yellow pages are a bit outdated and didn't fare well in the analog to digital transition of life!

I've seen two recommended shops in this forum for the East Valley... 1) Hilprecht Foreign Auto on Main in Mesa, and 2) Totally German Auto on Main in Mesa...

Heard anything good/bad about either?

Smile I agree...

Hello all,

I've been to Hilprecht Auto a couple of times already since buying my 300SD a couple of months ago.

I found him friendly, knowledgable and reasonable. I had the PPI (Pre-purchase inspection) done at a dealer and they quoted me 3x what Harold charged me to do the same work! He seemed like he knew the older diesels well

Hilprechts number is:480-654-1822. Taking my 77' 300D over to him to see what he can do. I'll post back here on my findings.

AZ, Mesa. TOTALLY GERMANY

Perry is in east Mesa between Power & Sossaman just west of the loop 202 on Main Street. He has been working on my 85 380SL since I first got it 7 years ago. He does not treat me like an idiot an always gives a valid estiment let's you know if it changes __ no surprises. Honest work & honest prices. My husband works on street rod and muscle cars but doesn't have the desire ringworm on the German (metric) car and even he is pleased with Perry's works, price and warranty of Perry's work.

TOTALLY GERMAN

Unfortunately, Perry of Totally German passed away in June 2013. He was killed in a terrible motorcycle accident. His son has taken over the business and although it seemed as if business would go on as usual I don't feel as though I've had the same quality of service as I had in the past. My quotes have been significantly less than what I ended up paying and my car hasn't been done on time. (I had to have my brakes bled and a fuel filter replaced and they had my car for 2 days). I don't know if it is because they are still struggling with the grief but I'm currently not recommending their services at this point and I'm going to try the other repair facility in the East Valley. I'm very disappointed. But more than that very sad about Perry's death.

Some People minds are like concrete thoroughly mixed up and completely set.
